A Safe Place To Listen To Life's Rain

Hi, I’m Kayla. I was born and raised right here in Nova Scotia, spending 15 years living in Edmonton before making the journey back home. Now, I’m rooted back on the coast in West Pubnico, Southwest Nova Scotia, where I bring both my professional healthcare background and my deep love for this community into everything I do.

My Journey:

As a Pharmacy Technician I learned a vital truth: medicine is only one part of the healing process. I became the person patients specifically asked for—not just for their prescriptions, but for the reassurance of knowing I would always see them, hear them, and be there for them on their hardest days. I realized then that my greatest gift wasn't just technical accuracy; it was an unwavering, non-judgmental presence for people at their most vulnerable.

Lived Experience, Not Just Theory:

I don’t just understand mental health challenges from a textbook. I have lived them. For decades, I have navigated the complexities of depression, anxiety, and BPD. I have walked through the doors of many mental health and medical specialists, and I have survived the weight of abuse and the isolation that follows it. Because I have stood in those storms, I can offer you something a clinical setting often can't: the perspective of a peer. I know the courage it takes to show up when your mind feels like an enemy.

The Road to Motherhood:

Becoming a mother was something I knew I wanted from a young age, but the path to getting here tested every piece of me. I navigated the quiet anxiety of fertility hurdles, a high-risk pregnancy managed through severe physical pain, and a difficult delivery that ultimately led into a battle with postpartum depression. Walking through that dark valley—and finding my way out with the help of medication—showed me just how fragile and isolating parenthood can feel. Motherhood itself is a role that has always come naturally to me, but I know firsthand that the entry to it can be messy, painful, and overwhelming. If you are struggling within your own journey as a parent, you have a safe space here to lay that weight down.

A Bridge, Not a Replacement:

I have a deep respect for psychologist and clinical therapist and see them as allies. In fact, I started off pursuing psychology in university, although my path eventually led me into pharmacy. However, as my career progressed and more patients and their family members reached out to me, I realized just how deep my desire was for psychology and for helping people find a calm space on their deepest, darkest days.

I created Copper Rain as I knew there was a gap between private and government funded therapy, where some couldn't afford one, but didn't qualify for the other, and resources for struggling family members was scarce. I knew with my professional background and deep desire to help people be heard and seen, that I could offer something other peer support workers could not:

An Empathetic, Non-Judgment Zone:

My life has taught me that human experiences are vast and often messy. Whether you are navigating relationship complexities, parenthood, a new diagnosis, or exploring kinks and fetishes—nothing is "too heavy or taboo" here. I am not here to diagnose you or "fix" you. I am here to be a compassionate witness to your reality, to listen when you feel unheard, to see you when you feel unseen and to ensure you never have to weather the rain alone.
